The Age censorship re Lib-Labs, climate change, floods, drought & bushfires

THE AGE censors comments re pro-gas, pro-coal, neocon, Lib-Lab complicity in climate change, floods, droughts, bushfires

The Age newspaper (Melbourne, Australia) is arguably Australia's foremost Mainstream medium and has a good record of presenting sensible, informed scientific opinions on the worsening threat from mad-made climate change.

However the outrageous political reality in Australia is that the extreme right wing Liberal-National Party Coalition (currently the Federal Opposition) and the Labor Party (currently the minority Federal Government) , these being collectively known as the Lib-Labs, are steadfstly inactive on tackling man-made climate change. About 84-88% of Australian voters give their first preference vote to either the Libs or the Labs.

According to top climate scientists, day-to-day weather is variable and in Australia periods of drought and wet are associated El Nino and La Nina events, respectively, but man-made global warming from industrial dumping of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere is increasing the likelihood of weather extremes such as the disastrous Queensland floods and the disastrous 10 year drought that preceded it.

For a recent cogent statement of this from Professor David Karoly (University of Melbourne, associated with the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC) see "Climate expert says more extreme weather likely", ABC News, 31 December 2010: http://www.abc.net.au/news/video/2010/12/31/3104537.htm - he sensibly suggests that Australian inaction on GHG emissions is due to “vested interests” (i.e. the fossil fuel-linked corporations).

Australia is a world leader in annual per capita greenhouse gas pollution. Thus “annual per capita greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution” in units of “tonnes CO2-equivalent per person per year” (2005-2008 data) is 0.9 (Bangladesh), 0.9 (Pakistan), 2.2 (India), less than 3 (many African and Island countries), 3.2 (the Developing World), 5.5 (China), 6.7 (the World), 11 (Europe), 16 (the Developed World), 27 (the US) and 30 (Australia; or 54 if Australia’s huge Exported CO2 pollution is included).

Unfortunately, spin and rhetoric aside, Australia resolutely refuses to take effective action. While top climate scientists say that Australia must get to zero CO2 emissions by 2020 (see: http://www.beyondzeroemissions.org/about/bze-brand ) , there is bipartisan (Liberal-National Party and Labor Party i.e. Lib-Lab) agreement for a derisory Domestic 5% off 2000 level by 2020 that is expected to be a Domestic plus Exported 149% INCREASE on 2000 by 2020 (see: https://sites.google.com/site/yarravalleyclimateactiongroup/australia-s-5-off-2000-ghg-pollution-by-2020-endangers-australia-humanity-and-biosphere ). Queensland is a major player in exploitation of coal and gas for Domestic use and Export and Australia is the World’s biggest coal exporter and ranks 4th in LNG exports.

1. The Age published an article by Coalition Deputy Leader Julie Bishop about the Queensland floods disaster entitled “Dark days in Queensland” (The Age On-line, National Times, 12 January 2010: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/blogs/the-bishops-gambit/dark-days-in-queensland/20110112-19mz1.html ). Remarkably this artilce did not mention man-made climate change as a causative agent in the Queensland floods. The Age published 25 comments on the article (all but 3 anonymous) but did not publish the informed, credentialled views of Dr Gideon Polya (nor of the eminent scientists he was quoting) about the link between the Queensland flood disaster and man-made global warming).

This is what The Age Censor (whoever he, she or They were in this instance) did not want readers of The Age to read: “In 2008 Professor John Holdren (Harvard University, Obama's science adviser) gave a Web-accessible lecture entitled "The Science of Climatic Disruption" in which he set out the actual, here and now, consequences of man-made global warming.

Of acute relevance to Australia were the 5-fold increase since the 1960s in the area of Western USA burned annually by forest fires and a huge increase in tropical and subtropical region floods around the world.

Leading Australian climate scientist Professor David Karoly (University of Melbourne, associated with the Nobel Prize-winning IPCC) has recently reiterated similar expert advice that while there is day-to-day weather variability and periodic La Nina and El Nino weather patterns leading to flooding and drought, respectively, in Australia, this is happening against a background of steadlily increasing sea temperature due to man-made global warming from greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution that is increasing the likelihood of extreme drought and flood events (see "Climate expert says more extreme weather likely", ABC News, 31 December 2010).

Unfortunately Australia, a world leading annual per capita GHG polluter (its annual Domestic plus Exported GHG pollution is 60 times that of Bangladesh), the World's biggest coal exporter and the 4th biggest gas exporter, ignores advice from top climate climate scientists that it must reduce CO2 pollution to zero (0) by 2020 (Australia's Domestic plus Exported GHG pollution is predicted to be 149% of the 2000 level by 2020).

Events such as the 10 year drought , Black Saturday and the Queensland flood disaster tragedy are occurring against a background of man-made warming and both Coalition and Labor inaction. ”

I have highlighted the last sentence above because this may have been what upset the Censor – thus following day in response to an article in The Age by former Coalition medico MP Dr Andrew Laming re health consequences of the Queensland floods and entitled “Our woes are just beginning” (The Age On-line, National Times, 13 January 2010: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/society-and-culture/our-woes-are-just-beginning-20110112-19o66.html ), I sent a comment saying much the same but not mentioning Lib-Lab complicity in the disaster through inaction over man-made global warming: “Excellent, informative and highly responsible article by Dr Andrew Laming with a variety of explicit or implicit suggestions for dealing with the numerous serious health threats arising from the disastrous Queensland floods.

Rational risk management that is implicit in Dr Laming's article is crucial for public health and safety and successively involves (a) accurate data, (b) scientific analysis and (c) sensible, informed systemic change to minimize risk.

However at a more fundamental level of causation there must be cognizance of the warnings from scientists about the increasing threat of man-made global warming leading to extreme flood events such as that in Queensland and NSW and consequent attendant health threats.

Leading climate scientist Professor David Karoly (University of Melbourne, a lead author on the Nobel Prize-winning IPCC) has recently commented thus on extreme weather events such as the Queensland floods and man-made global warming: "What we are seeing over the last 50 years and over the last 100 years is a change in this pattern of extremes with more hot and more wet extremes in northern Australia and more hot and more dry extremes in southern Australia and that pattern is exactly what we would expect from climate change due to increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere" (see "Climate expert says more extreme weather likely", ABC News, 31 December 2010).

Likewise, Professor John Holdren (Harvard University, Obama's chief science adviser) has described, among many major current global warming-related impositions, huge increases in flooding events around the tropical and sub-tropical world associated with man-made global warming, increased sea surface temperatures and increased evaporation (see "The Science of Climatic Disruption").”

2. The Age published an article by Dick Gross about the Queensland floods which commenced : "Catastrophes shine an unflinching light on the human condition. In Queensland, the floods have simultaneously produced acts of radiance and dark venality.This flood, of biblical proportions, has called forth all the human extremes that adorn and despoil our species" (Dick Gross, "The stuff of life and death", The Age On-line national Times, 14 January 2011: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/blogs/godless-gross/the-stuff-of-life-and-death/20110114-19q3k.html?comments=109#comments ).The Age published 109 comments on the article (all anonymous) but did not publish the serious and carefully researched comment from a non-anonymous scientist (Dr Gideon Polya).

This is what The Age Censor (who ever he or she is) evidently did not want readers of The Age to read, even when "buried" in a thread of 109 comments:

"Excellent article. Dick Gross notes "acts of radiance and dark venality" associated with the Queensland flood disaster.

The "dark venality" should include the huge Queensland fossil fuel industry for Domestic consumption and Export that continues to have enthusiastic bipartisan backing. Burning fossil fuels has caused global warming through increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) and top climate scientists say we must reduce CO2 in the atmosphere to 300 parts per million (ppm) from the current dangerous and damaging 392 ppm (Google 300 ppm CO2).

Yet climate scientists tell us that while no single event such as the Queensland floods can be attributed to man-made climate change it is clear that increasing temperature increases the probability of more extreme weather events.

Thus Professor Will Steffen (executive director of the ANU Climate Change Institute; Australian Government Climate Change Committee member) echoing the 2007 IPCC 4th Assessment Report: "As the climate warms, there is more water vapour in the atmosphere. This means that there is a probability that there will more intense rainfall events around the world."

Throughout the disaster economic commentators have looked forward to the resumption of coal exports that had been interrupted by the floods. Indeed at the height of the Brisbane floods (13 January 2011) Santos announced plans for a $13 billion LNG plant in Gladstone for 7.8 million tonnes of LNG per year with exports due to start in 2015 i.e. 21.5 million tonnes CO2 to be added the atmosphere each year as well as leaked methane (72 times worse than CO2 as a greenhouse gas on a 20 year time scale)."

3. The Age published an article by leading Australian political commentator Michelle Grattan about the Gillard Labor Government in 2011, the floods and the Levy (The Age On-line, National Times section, 4 February 2011: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/gillard-sets-her-sights-high-20110203-1afdu.html ) . The Age published 104 comments on the article ( all anonymous and hence uncredentialled) but declined to published the following informed, credentialled comments from Dr Gideon Polya, one supposes because it felt that its readers must be protected from such facts and such views:

“Asserting that "Gillard sets her sights high" is an Orwellian turning of reality upside down, whether it is flood relief or man-made climate change action (the 2 matters being connected).

Scientists inform that because the weather is variable one cannot determine the contribution of man-made global warming to specific events such as the Queensland flood and cyclone disasters. However increased air and sea temperature means more intense precipitation and cyclone events. The incidence of severe floods has increased globally 4- to 10-fold since the 1950s and the incidence of severe cyclones has doubled in recent decades (for extensive compendia of expert scientific opinion Google "man-made climate change and floods" and "man-made climate change and cyclones"). Pro-coal, pro-gas Labor has adopted counterproductive and dangerous polices.

1. The income-related disaster levy is fair but fairer still would be abolition of the circa $10 billion pa in subsidies for climate-damaging fossil fuel burning that remain in place under pro-coal, pro-gas Labor.

2. Labor supports continued and expanding climate-damaging coal and gas exploitation that makes Australia a world leader in per capita Domestic plus Exported GHG pollution (60 times worse than warming-threatened Bangladesh).

3. While Labor subsidizes fossil fuel pollution, it is now punishing ordinary taxpayers, the renewable energy industry needed to avert disaster, and universities who research and inform about the dangers and solutions.

4. 12,000 Australians die pa from fossil fuel burning pollutants but Labor ignores the $120 billion pa cost (US EPA estimate) that is equivalent to circa $400 per tonne carbon. Instead Labor offers a derisory carbon price of circa $10 per tonne carbon.”

The Age censorship re Educational Apartheid

THE AGE censors comments re Australian Lib-Lab-complicit Education Apartheid by a non-anonymous teacher and scholar

The Age published an article by a community worker and writer Chris Middendorp entitled “why should the public fund private schools” (The Age On-line, The National Times, 7 January 2011: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/society-and-culture/why-should-the-public-fund-private-schools-20110106-19hhn.html .

The Age published some 116 comments on the article (all but 7 from anonymous bloggers) but would not publish the following comments from a 4 decade credentialled teacher made under his own name (Dr Gideon Polya) - one can only guess at what points The Age did not want its readers to read.

“Excellent article, the key point being that two thirds of Australian children attend a state school system that is grossly under-resourced while successive Lib-Lab governments lavish funding on well-resourced private schools. Some further key points below.

1. Consult the "My School" website and you will discover that the majority of Australian kids who attend state schools are disproportionately excluded from university (as well as from top universities and from top university courses such as law and medicine).

2. Similar Educational Apartheid exists in the US as intertwined race- and wealth-based segregation. According to the US Census Bureau (2003 data) the percentage of US-born people with a bachelor's degree or more was 27.2 (total), 29.7 (Whites), 16.3 (Blacks) 13.5 (Hispanics) and 48.3 (Asians) and this says nothing about the quality of the degree.

3. UK Deputy PM Nick Clegg has used the term Educational Apartheid to describe the wealth- and class-based educational inequities, stating "Oxford and Cambridge take more students each year from just two schools - Eton and Westminster - than from among the 80,000 pupils who are eligible for free school meals."

4. Senior UK journalist Peter Wilby has suggested a partial UK solution involving entry to top universities for the top student in each high school.

5. Various US Ivy League universities (Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton and Yale) have initiated substantial needs-blind entry with consequent large minority attendance (Google "Educational Apartheid").

6. Australian state schools are variously unable to provide basic final year subjects.

7. Reject Lib-Lab-supported Educational Apartheid and put Labor last until the ALP (Another Liberal Party) recovers its historical egalitarian values.”

THE AGE, leading "liberal" Mainstream Australian newspaper, censors informed comments re WikiLeaks & genocide ignoring

This page documents instances in which The Age has censored informed, credentialled comments from a 5-decade career academic scientist (Dr Gideon Polya) about WikiLeaks-related matters while publishing scores of anonymous comments from uncredentialled bloggers.

These are examples of "active" censorship by The Age (actively cernsoring out facts and opinions it does not want its readers to read), in addition to a huge amount of utterly unacceptable "passive' censorship (remorseless refusal to report horrendous, UN-substantiated 8 million avoidable deaths associated with the Australia-linked US war on Terror).

Censorship and Genocide Ignoring by Australian Mainstream Media and WikiLeaks

Two major features of WikiLeaks are that (1) the leaked US cables simply provide documentary confirmation what sensible people had surmised already about the conduct of the US Alliance; and (2) the real scandal is that neither WikiLeaks nor Mainstream media (MSM) will report the horrendous carnage of 8 million dead so far in the US War on Terror. Below is documentary evidence of how one of Australia’s leading newspapers, The Age (Melbourne), actively censors reportage of this ongoing, largely Muslim Holocaust.

A 5-decade-career scientist, I retired from my laboratory-based research 7 years ago (although I still teach a major course to second year university science students). Inspired by Polish war hero Jan Karski (who tried to tell an unbelieving world about the Nazi Holocaust in Poland as it was happening) and appalled by Mainstream media, politician and academic ignoring of the ongoing US-imposed genocides (notably the ongoing Palestinian Genocide, Iraqi Genocide, Afghan Genocide and fossil fuel-driven Climate Genocide), I have been very active researching and writing to bear witness about these ongoing atrocities.

Silence kills and silence is complicity – one cannot walk by on the other side.

While I publish extensively around the World, I am almost completely excluded from presenting this urgent humanitarian message within Australia. However I have found a hole in the Mainstream media (MSM) Wall of Silence via what is arguably Australia’s most liberal Mainstream medium, The Age newspaper of Melbourne. The Age has an online version and invites reader comments on articles in a section entitled The National Times that is distributed to other newspapers of the Australian Fairfax media empire. I have been regularly making such comments under my own name (Dr Gideon Polya) but have noted considerable censorship of comments if Israel or Zionism is mentioned.

However in recent weeks such censorship by The Age reached an extraordinary level such that most comments I submitted concerning the WikiLeaks saga were censored (I hasten to add that I don’t know who actually does the censoring at The Age). I have concluded that what the Censor does not want readers of The Age to read is the real scandal that neither WikiLeaks nor Western Mainstream media (MSM) report the horrendous carnage in the US War on Terror that now totals 8 million dead, mostly from war-imposed deprivation. Some salient examples are provided below.

1. The Age republished an article re WikiLeaks by Simon Jenkins in the UK Guardian entitled ”In the future the only secrets will be spoken ones” (The Age, 30 November 2010: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/in-the-future-the-only-secrets-will-be-spoken-ones-20101129-18dt9.html?comments=64#comments ). 64 comments (all but 4 from anonymous bloggers) were published but The Age evidently did not want its readers to read that from Dr Gideon Polya: “Full praise to WikiLeaks and Australian hero Julian Assange for exposing the pure evil of violent US imperialism.

It is a national disgrace that the US lackey Australian Labor Government has rushed to support its war criminal US and Israeli friends and is threatening Julian Assange with a politicized Australian Federal Police (AFP) investigation.

The AFP would be better employed using its resources to investigate spying, suborning, terrorism-promotion, criminality and treason in Australia by pro-US and pro-Zionist non-Australians, Australians and dual citizen Australians.

Indeed I have sent a detailed, lengthy and documented dossier to the AFP (and to media and MPs) about 50 areas in which Zionists threaten Australia (Google "50 ways racist Zionists"). An AFP response to my complaints about the Australian-complicit Israeli terrorist forging of Australian passports for deadly terrorism purposes and the violent kidnapping of 5 Australians in International waters by Australian Israeli terrorists was that "no Commonwealth laws appear to have been broken".

Indeed a huge Elephant in the Room scandal is that while the Mainstream Media (MSM) report the more juicy and personal WikiLeaks diplomatic releases, they simply won't report horrendous Truths that are readily accessible from authoritative UN, scientific and other sources e.g. 1.4 million violent deaths in post-invasion Iraq (US Just Foreign Policy), 0.3 million annual under-5 infant deaths in Occupied Afghanistan ( UNICEF), 2.6 million under-5 infant deaths in Occupied Afghanistan and 2.0 million under-5 infant deaths in Iraq under Sanctions in Occupation (UN Population Division) and 1,000 child deaths each day in the overseas American Empire under Obama (Google "Hey, hey, USA").”

2. The Age subsequently published an article by the Fairfax China correspondent John Garnaut entitled “”The Chinese have Kevin Rudd pegged” about the WikiLeaks revelations about former PM Rudd advocating US military action against China (The Age, 6 December 2010: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/the-chinese-have-former-pm-pegged-20101205-18lcv.html ). 96 comments (all but 1 from anonymous bloggers) were published but The Age again completely censored my comment (although it did finally publish a version I censored myself). My original comment that The Age did not want its readers to read was as follows: “The WikiLeaks release reveals former PM Kevin Rudd as a dangerous warmonger suggesting war on China and Australian deployments in Pakistan as well as attacking China's sovereignty over Tibet and Taiwan that predates UK sovereignty over Scotland.

I agree with Coalition Shadow Foreign Minister Julie Bishop that PM Gillard should clarify Australia's position re war against China and war in Pakistan.

Having attempted to wreck Australia's mining industry through massive taxation the Labor Government is now jeopardizing the China market that enabled Australia to survive the GFC unscathed.

Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity. Julian Assange is a world hero and should be Australian of the Year for exposing the lying US warmongers, subverters and war criminals.

It is an utter disgrace that the Australian Labor Government in threatening Julian Assange is putting the protection of the pathologically violent, dishonest, war criminal and climate criminal US Government against the protection of an heroic Australian citizen.

Rudd should be sacked. Indeed the dangerously incompetent Gillard Labor Government should be sacked.

For decent, pro-peace, pro-Planet Australians the crucial electoral strategy is to Put Labor Last until it returns to traditional Whitlam era values, totally rejects the deadly invasion and occupation of Asian countries at the behest of the Americans and takes serious action on climate change (zero CO2 emissions and 100% renewable energy by 2020 according to the much-acclaimed BZE ZCA2020 Report) that acutely threatens most of our Asian neighbors with massive physical destruction.”

3. The Age published an article by Fairfax writer Charles Purcell entitled “Truth, power , and an age-old divide” (between young and old power) (The Age, 8 December 2010: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/truth-power-and-an-ageold-divide-20101208-18pa6.html?comments=43#comments ). The Age published 43 comments (all but 5 anonymous) but again found 2 successive comments by me unfit to print: “"Some very dubious age-related assertions in this article. I am an older Australian but have been "talking truth to power" all my adult life. Back in the 1960s my car was adorned with a big sign saying "Nazis killed Jews. We kill Asians" (we still are) and I took part in the 500,000 strong Washington demo against the bombing of Cambodia (our ally is using robots to bomb villages in flood-devastated Pakistan). In 2010 the members of our local Climate Action Group are overwhelmingly over 50 years old.

Julian Assange is a hero for freedom of information and the Australian Labor Government stands condemned not just for its immoral secret dealings with the US, betrayal of pro-peace, pro-truth Labor supporters and its attacks on WikiLeaks but for its dangerous perversion of rational risk management that is vital for the security of Australians and which fundamentally requires FOI.

The WikiLeaks release of US documents about "US friends" in Australian Labor comes 35 years after Phillip Agee published his personal account as a CIA operative in Latin America (see "Inside the Company. CIA Diary"). As I remember, Agee's job in Ecuador was to "run" the Head of the Trade Union Movement, the President and Vice-President (whose mistresses both wanted Cadillacs) and the Leader of the Opposition. Agee's account instantly transformed my understanding of Australian politics, with confirmation provided when the retiring CIA chief in Australia praised his special "friends" by name (the WikiLeaks documents are supposed to go back to 1966 so more confirmation may be in store for us)."

For the second time a carefully researched, non-anonymous and usefully referenced comment by me on WikiLeaks has failed to make it in the National Times. A self-censored version below.

Ultimately WikiLeaks by Australian and World hero Julian Assange is about overcoming Mainstream media and politician censorship and directly promoting Freedom of Information which is vital for rational risk management and the safety of Australians and indeed all people worldwide.

WikiLeaks documentary revelations about US subversion of Australian and other governments and institutions is predated by 35 years in Phillip Agee's "Inside the Company. CIA Diary" in which he describes his work in Ecuador "running" top government, opposition and trade union leaders as US agents. This was for me an instant revelation about US-subverted Australian politics that is now being further exposed by WikiLeaks.

WikiLeaks is importantly providing insider evidence about US espionage, war crimes, subversion and collaborators around the world.

Agee also noted that a CIA colleague had an exciting time "running" Ecuadorian terrorists who would bomb Catholic Churches (these atrocities then being blamed on Communists). There is a wealth of subsequent information about US backing of terrorists (including nascent Al Qaeda and the Taliban). We await further WikiLeaks documents about US state terrorism and Australia's role in such atrocities.

The "age divide" assertion in the article is unsubstantiated and dubious - there are plenty of decent Australians young and old who are opposed to Australian-complicit US wars, invasions and genocides (violent deaths and non-violent avoidable deaths from deprivation so far total 4.4 million in the Iraqi Genocide, 1990-2010, and 4.9 million in the Afghan Genocide, 2001-2010).”

The Age published an article by The Age writer Kathleen Murphy entitled “New cables reinforce image of Arbib as compulsive player” about the secret, WikiLeak-revealed connection of Labor Coup Plotter Senator Arbib as a secret informer to the US (The Age, 9 December 2010: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/new-cables-reinforce-image-of-arbib-as-compulsive-player-20101209-18qmq.html ). The Age published 40 comments (all but 3 anonymous) but again found my comment unfit for its readers: "Ms Murphy jocularly dismisses Arbib's special relationship with a dangerous foreign power that the Amercians sought to keep secret from non-US nationals.

However the fact remains that thanks to Arbib's secret relationship with Washington the US was warned of moves against Kevin Rudd in 2009 whereas PM Rudd was only made aware in the evening of 23 June 2010.

Wheels within wheels. Australia has been a lackey of the US since the US-backed coup against PM Whitlam in 1975. Mark Latham was vetoed by the US Ambassador in the 2004 elections. George Bush intervened outrageously in the 2007 elections. The Labor Party has been a craven lackey of Washington but according to the WikiLeaks 2 of the main pro-Zionist plotters in the Coup against Rudd were US informants.

If a member of the Australian cricket team were found to be giving secret advice to the English he would have to retire to the Home Country but MPs being secret informants of a dangerous, nuclear terrorist, war-making nation is far more serious.

However US lackey Labor turns the other cheek over the forging of Australian passports by US-backed Israel, the violent kidnapping of Australians in international waters by Israeli terrorists (including dual citizen Australian Israeli terrorists) and massive illegal seizure of Australian citizens' property in Palestine by Apartheid Israel. The Age published an article by intelligence insider Paul Barratt praising WikiLeaks and entitled “The net will win against deception” (The Age, 13 December 2010: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/the-net-will-win-against-deception-20101212-18txe.html ). While The Age published 67 comments (all but 6 anonymous) it evidently regarded my 2 successive submissions as unfit for its readers:

"The WikiLeaks revelations are useful documentary confirmation of what sensible observers had already concluded about the humanity-violating villainy of the US and its variously cowardly, corrupt and violent associates.

Julian Assange and his WikiLeaks associates are heroes who have increased the security of Humanity by these revelations. However the consequences of WikiLeaks to date are very limited and may be counterproductive in some respects.

The Age published an article by its diplomatic editor Daniel Flitton entitled “Relations in deep water” about predicted long-lasting impacts of the WikiLeaks-revealed verbal indiscretions of former PM Rudd (The Age, 15 December 2010: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/relations-in-deep-water-20101214-18wrj.html?comments=23#comments ). The Age published 31 comments from readers (all but 2 anonymous) but evidently regarded my carefully composed comment as also unfit for its readers: “This article may well be right about long-lasting consequences of WikiLeaks releases about Rudd but ignores the key Elephant in the Room matter of foreign lobbyist influence on Labor and in Australia politics in general.

Mainstream media (MSM) publishes selected WikiLeaks and have conceded that the leaks are simply documentary evidence from the Americans of what sensible people had already surmised from a wealth of other evidence about ruthless US suborning of decency, foreign politicians, human rights and national sovereignty.

However resolutely ignored is the Awful Truth that both WikiLeaks and the MSM are happy to publish US insider cables and other secret documents but resolutely refuse to report the horrendous human cost of US imperialism that is publicly available from the UN. 7. Finally this week, The Age published an article by media academic Hamish Ford entitled “WikiLeaks gives old media a shot in the arm”, about renewal of journalism through WikiLeaks. (The Age, 16 December 2010: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/contributors/wikileaks-gives-old-media-a-shot-in-the-arm-20101216-18yt7.html ). The Age published 26 comments from readers (all but 1 anonymous) but again found my comment unfit its readers: “Good article that nevertheless, like WikiLeaks, media and politicians, fails to note the real scandal of the WikiLeaks saga, specifically that while WikiLeaks is properly lauded for publishing hundreds if thousands of US-linked diplomatic opinions, this obscures the outrageous non-reportage by the Mainstream media of the actual horrendous human consequences of US imperialism. Violent deaths and non-violent avoidable deaths in the US War on Terror now total 8 million, the breakdown being 2.5 million in Iraq, 4.9 million in Afghanistan and 0.8 million (3,000 Australian) from US restoration of the Taliban-destroyed Afghan opium industry.

In her important novel "The Lacuna" (lacuna meaning a gap or absence) Barbara Kingsolver has Russian Communist revolutionary Leon Trotsky (Lev) and his assistant Van have the following discussion about media (part 3, p159, Faber & Faber, London, 2009 edition): ""But newspapers have a duty to truth", Van said. Lev [Trotsky] clicked his tongue. "They tell the truth only as the exception. Zola [French novelist of "J'accuse" fame] wrote that the mendacity of the press could be could be divided into two groups: the yellow press lies every day without hesitating. But others, like the Times, speak the truth on all inconsequential occasions, so they can deceive the public with the requisite authority when it becomes necessary." Van got up from his chair to gather the cast-off newspapers. Lev took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. " I don't mean to offend the journalists; they aren't any different from other people. They're merely the megaphones of other people" (Google "media ignoring horrendous US crimes").

Summary.

I am a widely-published 5-decade career scientist who attempts to do his duty by informing the public about the horrendous human consequences of the US War on Terror (8 million dead, mostly from war-imposed deprivation). While I can publish overseas I have virtually no voice within pro-war, pro-US, pro-Zionist, war crimes-complicit Australia and have been reduced to making comments under my name (Dr Gideon Polya) to reader comment threads of op-ed articles in the on-line version of The Age, arguably Australia’s most liberal mainstream newspaper.

As documented above, even this avenue has been resolutely closed to me over the last fortnight. Evidently The Age does not want its readers to know of (a) UN-based estimates of horrendous deaths due to US Alliance war crimes and (b) that the real WikiLeaks scandal is that neither WikiLeaks nor Mainstream media (MSM) report the horrendous carnage of 8 million dead so far in the US War on Terror.

The carnage in the Occupied Palestinian, Iraqi and Afghan Territories involves post-invasion violent deaths and avoidable deaths from Occupier-imposed deprivation totaling 0.3 million, 2.5 million and 4.9 million, respectively - evidence of a Palestinian Genocide, Iraqi Genocide and Afghan Genocide as defined by Article 2 of the UN Genocide Convention. However as illustrated above, arguably Australia’s most liberal Mainstream newspaper does not want its readers to read of this, even when it is buried in an op-ed article comment thread in the on-line version of The Age and sister newspapers.

Indeed, a search of the “entire site” of cowardly, craven, taxpayer–funded ABC (Australia’s formerly respected equivalent of the UK BBC) reveals that the very terms Palestinian Genocide, Iraqi Genocide and Afghan Genocide are not to be found (see ABC News: http://search.abc.net.au/search/search.cgi?query=%22afghan+genocide%22+&sort=&collection=abcall&form=simple ), an extraordinary demonstration of racist Apartheid Australian genocide ignoring.

Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity. Decent people around the World are obliged to (a) inform everyone they can about Australian and US Alliance genocide commission and genocide ignoring and to (b) apply and urge Sanctions and Boycotts against all countries, corporations, politicians and people complicit in these horrendous, genocidal crimes.

Item 8. The Age published an article by former PM Malcolm Fraser entitled “”Slavish devotion to the US a foreign policy folly for Australia” which condemned the WikiLeaks-revealed offer (by Australian Ambassador to Washington, Kim Beazley) of Australian support for the US in a war with China. Former PM Rudd was revealed by WikiLeaks as suggesting such a war. In cointrast the extreme eright wing politicians, notably former PM Sir Robert Menzies, former Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, former PM Jon Howard did not support such an involvement. The Age published 110 comments (all but 1 anonymous) but rejected the following informed, credentialled comments from a 5-decade-career academic scientist (Dr Gideon Polya) presumably as facts it did not want its readers exposed to: “Excellent article by a former PM of Australia.

MSM censor 8 million dead in US War on Terror & key evidence that US did 9-11

The US-dominated World Mainstream media are legitimately remembering the 3,000 dead in the 9-11 atrocity for which some top scientific and intelligence experts hold the US responsible. However, in marked contrast, World Mainstream media ignore the 8 million dead (mostly Asian women and children) in the post-9-11 US War on Terror (a war for Oil and Hegemony) driven politically by racist Zionist and neocon American terror hysteria, anti-Arab anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

The world is marking the 9th anniversary of the 9-11 atrocity in which, (1) according to some top scientific and intelligence experts, the US Government, with likely Israeli state terrorist support, killed 3,000 Americans on 9-11 to launch the War on Terror for oil, US hegemony and US-Israeli domination of the Middle East or (2) religious fundamentalists in Central Asian caves without state intelligence, armed forces, or military-industrial infrastructure achieved a devastating attack on Metropolitan United States that the Axis Powers failed to do in World War 2 and, furthermore, did so for no obvious cost-benefit reasons.

Two Swiss scholars, Professors Daniele Ganser and Albert A. Stahel of the University of Zurich, reported in the largest Swiss newspaper, "Blick", have seriously questioned the "official Bush version" of what happened on 9/11 (see "Je mehr wir forschen, desto mehr zweifeln wir” [“the more we research the more we doubt"], Blick, 15 September 2006: link ). Professor Ganser: "3,000 humans were sacrificed for strategic interests. The more we explore, the more we doubt the Bush version. It is conceivable that the Bush government was responsible. Bush has lied so much already! And we already know that the US government planned an operation in 1962 that was approved by the Pentagon that would have sacrificed innocent US citizens for the government's own interests ...We only ask questions" (see “US responsible for 9-11? Professors Ganser and Stahel presented 3 sensible hypotheses for 9-11: "There are three theories, which we should treat equally:

1. "Surprise theory" - Bin Laden and Al Qaeda implemented the attacks.

2. "Let it happen on purpose" - The US Government knew the Al Qaeda plans and did not react in order to legitimize a series of wars.

3. "Made it happen on purpose" - The attacks were actually planned and orchestrated by the Pentagon and/or US secret services."

How do these 3 hypotheses about the 9/11 atrocity stack up when one considers Means, Opportunity and Motive (MOM)? In short, compelling evidence from scientist, military and intelligence experts points to US involvement in the 9-11 atrocity. In particular, the US-implicating discovery of unexploded nanothermite high explosive in all samples of the 9-11 WTC dust studied by Professor Niels Harrit (Chemistry Department, 9-Nobel-Laureate University of Copenhagen) and his colleagues, and published in a peer-reviewed chemical physics journal, has been near-comprehensively censored out by English-language Mainstream media.



Professor Niels Harrit and colleagues (Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen , Copenhagen, Denmark ) : “We have discovered distinctive red/gray chips in all the samples we have studied of the dust produced by the destruction of the World Trade Center . Examination of four of these samples, collected from separate sites, is reported in this paper. These red/gray chips show marked similarities in all four samples…Based on these observations, we conclude that the red layer of the red/gray chips we have discovered din the WTC dust is active, unreacted thermitic material, incorporating nanotechnology, and is a highly energetic pyrotechnic or explosive material” (see Niels H. MSM censor 8 million deaths in US War on Terror

WikiLeaks has been closed down world-wide and its heroic Australian founder Julian Assange is facing arrest. But the real WikiLeaks scandal is that while there is selective reportage of the WikiLeaks US document leaks, Mainstream media (MSM) resolutely refuse to report horrendous US crimes that involve scores of millions of deaths and which are publicly documented by readily accessed data from authoritative UN agencies.

The New Statesman has published a lawyer's view of the WikiLeaks saga. The article by lawyer and writer David Allen Green (legal correspondent of the New Statesman; shortlisted for the George Orwell Prize in 2010) legitimately praises WikiLeaks re transparency and then incorrectly damns it re accountability (non-electedness), legality and privacy: “ The release by WikiLeaks of US government cables is a sheer triumph for transparency… But transparency is not the only liberal value. There are others, and these are important, too. For example, there is the value of legitimacy: those who wield power in the public interest should normally have some democratic mandate or accountability… Another liberal value is legality: the belief that actions – especially those that affect others – should have a basis in law… A third liberal value is privacy: the belief that, in certain human affairs, private space is required… Nonetheless, WikiLeaks remains a powerful but undemocratic and unaccountable entity that shows a general disregard for both the rule of law and the practical need for certain communications and data to be confidential. So, from a liberal perspective, there is a great deal to commend WikiLeaks, but there is also a lot that should cause a liberal to be concerned” (see David Green, “WikiLeaks and the liberal mind””, New Statesman, 1 December 2010: link ).

David Green's legal caveats can be countered by the following not uncommon situation on the daily TV news in which a citizen who has witnessed a violent and deadly crime tells all to the media - yet lawyers would argue that the witness is unaccountable (unelected) and jeopardizes the fair trial and privacy of the accused!

WikiLeaks provides some documentary evidence with a bearing on US Alliance armed robbery and mass murder. The US with 5% of the world's population consumes 25% of its resources and to achieve this lies, suborns, subverts, threatens invades, occupies, tortures and mass murders.

The real WikiLeaks scandal is that while Mainstream media (MSM) will publish some of the Leaks it will NOT report the horrendous human cost of US violence and hegemony, data that is readily available from UN Agencies like UNICEF and the UN Population Division (horrendous examples are given below).

1. 22 million annual avoidable deaths (mostly women and children) on Spaceship Earth with America in charge of the flight deck (UN Population Division data: link ).

2. 1,000 children die avoidably every day in the US Overseas Empire under Obama (see "Hey, hey, USA , how many kids did you kill today? Answer: 1,000": link ).

For Spaceship Earth subject to First World (largely USA) hegemony, 1950-2005 avoidable deaths (excess deaths, deaths that did not have to happen) totaled 1.3 billion (the World), 1.2 billion (the non-European World) and 0.6 billion (the Muslim World), the latter statistic revealing a Muslim Holocaust 100 times greater than the WW2 Jewish Holocaust (5-6 million killed, 1 in 6 dying from deprivation) or the “forgotten” WW2 Bengali Holocaust (6-7 million Indians starved to death by the British in the WW2 Bengal Famine (see "Body Count. 8. Consonant with the above data, 1950-2005 under-5 infant deaths totaled 0.88 billion (the World), 0.85 billion (the non-European World) and 0.4 billion (the Muslim World) (see "Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950" by Gideon Polya: link ).

9. The world is facing a worsening climate emergency due to man-made greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution. Both Dr James Lovelock FRS (Gaia hypothesis) and Professor Kevin Anderson ( Director, Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, University of Manchester, UK) have recently estimated that fewer than 1 billion people will survive this century due to unaddressed, man-made global warming. Noting that the world population is expected to reach 9.5 billion by 2050, these estimates translate to a climate genocide involving deaths of 10 billion people this century, this including 6 billion under-5 year old infants, 3 billion Muslims in a terminal Muslim Holocaust, 2 billion Indians, 1.3 billion non-Arab Africans, 0.5 billion Bengalis, 0.3 billion Pakistanis and 0.3 billion Bangladeshis (see “Climate Genocide”: link ).

The Mainstream media (MSM) that boldly report the sensational WikiLeaks document scandals resolutely refuse to report the above statistics in an appalling process of continuing holocaust ignoring genocide ignoring, holocaust denial and genocide denial. Indeed the very terms variously used by scholars to describe some of these horrendous events Bengali Holocaust, Iraqi Holocaust, Afghan Holocaust, Iraqi Genocide, Afghan Genocide, Palestinian Genocide and Climate Genocide are totally eliminated from Mainstream discourse (e.g. for a detailed analysis see “ Australian ABC ignores holocaust and genocide atrocities ”: link ).

One has to turn to fiction for analysis of this extraordinary perversion of the Mainstream media. Barbara Kingsolver in her great novel "The Lacuna" (lacuna meaning hiatus, blank, missing part, gap, cavity, or empty space) has Russian Communist revolutionary and theorist Leon Trotsky (Lev) and his assistant Van have the following discussion about media (part 3, p159, Faber & Faber, London, 2009 edition): ""But newspapers have a duty to truth", Van said. Lev [Trotsky] clicked his tongue. "They tell the truth only as the exception. Zola [French novelist of "J'accuse" fame] wrote that the mendacity of the press could be could be divided into two groups: the yellow press lies every day without hesitating. But others, like the Times , speak the truth on all inconsequential occasions, so they can deceive the public with the requisite authority when it becomes necessary." Van got up from his chair to gather the cast-off newspapers. Lev took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. " I don't mean to offend the journalists; they aren't any different from other people. They're merely the megaphones of other people" … [Trotsky observes to his assistant Shepherd] “Soli, let me tell you. The most important thing about a person is always the thing you don't know”” (p218).

Jake in “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” by Carson McCullers put it more succinctly: “But the main thing he sees is that the whole system of the world is built on a lie.”

The extraordinary lying by omission of the Mainstream media of the “democratic fascist” Western Murdochracies and Lobbyocracies is on a par with the lying by omission of totalitarian societies.

Indeed Soviet Union dictator Joseph Stalin famously declared “A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.”

Nazi German dictator Adolph Hitler coined the phrase “the big lie” in his book “Mein Kampf”: “in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. WikiLeaks has been closed down world-wide and World hero and WikiLeaks principal, Australian Julian Assange, is facing arrest with nowhere to hide in a neocon-dominated World committed to lying and to The Big Lie. The lying, pro-war, pro-Zionist, pro-US Australian Government promises that Julian Assange will be arrested if he returns to Australia . Yet the brutal government-corporate censorship of WikiLeaks hides the horrendous lying by holocaust-denying Mainstream media, politicians and academics in the Western Murdochracies . One can estimate that post-1950 violent deaths and non-violent avoidable deaths from deprivation in countries variously occupied by the US in the post-1945 era total about 90 million, a death toll greater than that of World War 2 in both the Eastern and Western theatres.

"The Age" (Melbourne) censorship over nuclear issues

According to Professor John Holdren ((Professor of Environmental Policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; Director of the Woods Hole Research Center; recent President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and President Obama’s chief scientific adviser)) key issues facing humanity are nuclear weapons, poverty and global warming. According AAAS: “SAN FRANCISCO—Challenges such as poverty, climate change and nuclear proliferation pose global risks that require scientists and engineers to join with political and business leaders in a concerted search for solutions, AAAS President John P. Holdren said Thursday” (see AAAS, “AAAS President John P. Holdren urges swift action to build a sustainable future”, 16 February 2007: http://www.aaas.org/news/releases/2007/0216am_holdren_address.shtml ).

Unfortunately Australian Mainstream media (MSM, like MSM in the other Western Murdochracies and Lobbyocracies), variously continue to censor out information critically required for sensible public discussion of these key issues.

The Age (arguably Australia's most "liberal" Mainstream medium) published an article by Rory Medcalf (a program director at the Lowy Institute and senior research fellow in Indian strategic affairs at the University of NSW and a former Australian diplomat in India) advocating Australian uranium oxide sales to India and entitled “Time to sell uranium to India” (The Age On-line National Times, 21 January 2011: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/time-to-sell-uranium-to-india-20110120-19xxw.html ” .

“The Age published comments from 111 readers (all but 1 anonymous) but declined to publish a carefully researched comment by Dr Gideon Polya under this name (one could reasonably assume that The Age does not want its readers to know the facts in the comment). Dr Gideon Polya has had a 5-decade scientific career, publishing over 100 scientific articles, 4 books, and numerous chapters in books. He is currently the sole academic involved in presenting a major 1-semester course (theory and laboratory classes) to second year science students at a leading Australian university. Some 40 years of his research involved use of radiochemicals and 30 years of teachin ginvoved teaching students about radiation safety.

"Sensible article but part calls for critique, specifically "The theory is that exempting India might lead Pakistan, Israel, Iran or North Korea to conclude that one day they too can have both the bomb and respectable nuclear commerce with the world".

Iran has zero (0) nuclear weapons, is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and repeatedly states that it does not want nuclear weapons, is not making nuclear weapons and wants a nuclear weapons-free Middle East (the latter being repeatedly opposed by NPT-violating US and NPT-non-signatory Israel).

In contrast, total nuclear weapons are about 9,600 (US), 12,000 (Russia), 1,979 (Israel), 225 (UK), 300 (France), 240 (China), 60-80 (India), 70-90 (Pakistan), <10>

Australia's current position is highly hypocritical in (a) selectively excluding uranium sales to non-belligerent India (and no doubt to Iran), (b) selling to genocidally belligerent US Alliance countries, (UK, US, France, Germany) (c) indirectly supporting Israel's nuclear weapons program (leakage of nuclear-related materials from the US and UK; tax deductability of donations to Israel; partisan diplomatic support for Israel; and unacceptable military-related dealings with Israel).

Re nuclear weapons-free Iran one must also note that about 4,000 Iranian soldiers and police have died trying to stem the flow of opiates from US-, NATO- and Australia-occupied Afghanistan (UNODC).

About 3,000 Australians have died since 2001 linked to US Alliance restoration of the Taliban-destroyed Afghan opium industry to over 90% of world market share. With the US facing ultimate debt-based collapse (Professor Niall Ferguson, Harvard) Australia should re-assess its dealings with all belligerent nuclear weapons states."

ABC ignoring of Iraqi Holocaust & Iraqi Genocide (4.4 million dead, 1990-2011)

A recent (June 2009) news report from the genocide-ignoring Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) underestimates post-invasion Iraqi war dead by a factor of 26 - it reports 90,000-100,000 dead (see: “Iraq forces on alert as US pulls out”, 30 June 2009: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/06/30/2611934.htm ), whereas authoritative sources indicate 2.3 million post-invasion violent and non-violent Iraqi excess deaths (for details see below).

Apartheid Australia continues to be involved in the active and passive murder of Indigenous people in Australia, Occupied Iraq and Occupied Afghanistan but chooses to resolutely ignore the horrendous consequences, further enhancing its reputation as a racist, war criminal, climate criminal country with an entrenched culture of lying.

Apartheid Australia has made race-based laws that specifically prevent Indigenous Australians in the Northern Territory from the provision of the 1975 Racial Discrimination Act and from reading, seeing, consuming, purchasing or transporting things that are available to all other Australians – the Australian Human Rights Commission opposes these race-based laws (see “Racial Discrimination Act 1975 “: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_Discrimination_Act_1975 ).

The taxpayer-funded Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is no exception to this national culture of lying and is actively involved in propagating racist lies of omission and commission about the consequences of Australia’s genocidal activities. Indeed while a search of the ABC (July 2009; see: http://www.abc.net.au/ ) finds brief and "controversial" reference to "Aboriginal Genocide", the terms Iraqi Genocide, Afghan Genocide, Palestinian Genocide and Climate Genocide are completely absent.

This ABC lying is a dishonest, misplaced effort to shore up Apartheid Australia’s flagging international reputation – in particular racist, genocidal Apartheid Australia (population 21 million) wants a seat on the UN Security Council to the exclusion of peaceful, law-abiding, non-racist countries such as, for example, India (population 1,100 million) (for an official statement of Apartheid Australia’s case by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) see “Australia: United Nations Security Council candidate 2013-2014”: http://www.dfat.gov.au/un/unga.html ).

However the DFAT case naturally enough omits to mention Apartheid Australia’s sustained involvement in mass murder of Asians that continues to this day. Apartheid Australia has been involved in all post-1950 US Asian wars, genocidal conflicts that have been associated, so far, with 25 million Indigenous Asian excess deaths (avoidable deaths, deaths that need not have happened) (for details see my recent books “Body Count, Global avoidable mortality since 1950” : http://globalbodycount.blogspot.com/ and http://mwcnews.net/Gideon-Polya ) and “Jane Austen and the Black Hole of British History. The ABC News recently reported the US withdrawal from Iraqi cities and stated: “Since March 2003, more than 4,300 US troops died in Iraq. According to some estimates, between 90,000 and 100,000 Iraqi civilians have also been killed” (see: “Iraq forces on alert as US pulls out”, 30 June 2009: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/06/30/2611934.htm ).

The awful truth about the Iraqi Genocide is otherwise as set out below.

The highly-credentialled US-based Just Foreign Policy organization estimates from expert US medical epidemiological and UK commercial surveys that 1.3 million Iraqi have died violently due to the US invasion (see: http://www.justforeignpolicy.org/node/156 ) .

UN Population Division data (see: http://esa.un.org/unpp/ ) indicate that post-invasion Iraqi non-violent excess deaths total about 1.0 million and that post-invasion under-5 infant deaths total 0.6 million (2009).

In addition one can estimate 1.7 million Sanctions excess deaths (1990-2003), 1.2 million under-5 infant deaths under Sanctions, and 0.2 million Iraqi Gulf War deaths (see “Iraqi Genocide”: http://www.brusselstribunal.org/Messages190308.htm#polya ) and refugees reached 5-6 million (see “Brussells Tribunal”, notably “US genocide in Iraq” by Dr Ian Douglas: http://www.brusselstribunal.org/ ) .

About 90% of the under-5 infant deaths have been avoidable i.e. Apartheid Australia has been actively involved in the active and passive mass murder of 0.9 x 1.8 million = 1.6 million Iraqi under-5 year old infants under Sanctions (1990-2003) and Occupation (2003-2009), this number being greater than the number of Jewish children who died under the Nazis (1.5 million). The reason for this carnage: WHO (see: http://www.who.int/countries/en/ ) informs that the “total annual per capita medical expenditure” permitted by the US Alliance Occupiers in Occupied Iraq is currently $124 as compared to $3,122 in Apartheid Australia. Apartheid Australia is grossly violating the Geneva Convention which demands that an Occupier must supply life-sustaining food and medical supplies “to the fullest extent o f the means available to it” (see Articles 55 and 56 of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War: http://www.unhchr.ch/html/menu3/b/92.htm ).

Just imagine genocide and holocaust reporting about Germany, that omitted any mention of the Jewish Holocaust (5-6 million dead, 1 in 6 dying from deprivation) - indeed David Irving was sentenced to 3 years in prison in Austria for conceding only 1 million violent Jewish deaths and asserting that Jewish concentration camp deaths were due to deprivation and disease. Interviewer: What about the people who died in concentration camps?

Irving: We have to ask two infuriating questions. Who is a Jew? And what do you mean by died? I appreciate the criminality of being taken out of your home in Vienna or Budapest and sent to Auschwitz, where you died of typhus. But is that being killed, or is it dying?”

David Irving’s minimizing of the WW2 Jewish Holocaust atrocity (according to Irving, 1 million killed plus people dying from deprivation in concentration camps); stands in marked contrast to authoritative estimates of 5-6 million dead, 1 in 6 dying from deprivation; see: Gilbert, M. (1969) (with Banks, A., cartographer), Jewish History Atlas (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, London) and Gilbert, M. (1982), Atlas of the Holocaust (Michael Joseph, London)).

Thus, on the basis of the above interview, David Irving underestimated the WW2 Jewish Holocaust deaths by a factor of about 5 at the most.

Eminent British Jewish historian Professor Sir Martin Gilbert estimated that 1.5 million Indians starved to death in the 1943-1945 Bengal Famine or Bengali Holocaust in British-ruled India (see his book “A History of the Twentieth Century. Volume Two 1933-1951”) – underestimating by a factor of about 4 the actual death toll of 6-7 million Indians murdered by the British in the WW2 Bengali Holocaust (see the recent BBC broadcast involving Dr Polya, Economics Nobel Laureate Professor Amartya Sen and others: http://www.open2.net/thingsweforgot/bengalfamine_programme.html ) .

I should add that Professor Martin Gilbert in his book “A History of the Twentieth Century. Volume Two 1933-1951” (William Morrow, New York , 1998) is remarkable and praiseworthy in British historiography for actually mentioning the Bengal Famine, [my correcting additions in square brackets]: “In the summer of 1943, as supplies of rice ran out [incorrect], famine spread through Bengal. Its ravages were savage and swift. The poor, and villagers in the remoter regions were its main victims [people starved in Calcutta], not only in Bengal, but in neighboring Orissa and distant Malabar. Within a few months, as many as 1,500,000 Indians had died [6-7 million died, 1943-1945]. The Bengal Famine was one of the worst famines of the century [p522]…Between 1939 and 1945 disease and hunger had taken their toll, with war conditions making it much harder to organize alleviation. In Bengal, a million and half Indians died of starvation [6-7 million died in Bengal, Assam and Orissa] [p725]”.

However the genocide-ignoring Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) underestimates the 2.3 million post-invasion Iraqi excess deaths by a factor of 2.3 million/90,000 = 26.

As of 2010, the violent deaths and non-violent avoidable deaths in Iraq (1990-2011) total 4.4 million and refugees total 5-6 million.

Holocaust ignoring as practised by the Australian ABC (Australia's equivalent of the UK BBC) is vastly worse than holocaust denial because the latter at least admits the possibility of discussion.
